UTI Children’s Career Fund Investment Plan or UTI CCF-IP is a solution-oriented mutual fund investment scheme. This mutual fund scheme focuses on investment planning towards children’s future. The fund was launched in January 2008

As of April 30, 2022, the fund has Assets under Management (AUM) of Rs. 611.96 crores with an expense ratio of 2.78% for Regular Plan and 1.60% for Direct Plan. There is no entry and exit load applicable on investment in UTI Children’s Career Fund but the fund carries a lock-in period of 5 years or till the child attains 18 years age, whichever is earlier.

The primary objective of the investment plan is to help investors create a healthy corpus towards the child’s future through long term capital appreciation by investing predominantly in equities.

This plan follows a flexi-cap fund strategy with a blend of growth and value style and intends to keep the large-cap exposure below 65% and the remaining in mid & small cap of its equity allocation. The fund looks to generate alpha by stock selection across large, mid, and small caps while not taking any aggressive sectoral bets.

The fund also offers a Scholarship option in which an applicant (such as parent or guardian) investing on behalf a child can opt to utilize the accumulated corpus once he/she completes 18 years of age to meet their cost of education. At the time of joining the plan, the applicant can choose the number of instalments of scholarship payments which could be 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8, payable either on yearly or half-yearly intervals. Over the chosen period the unit holdings will be completely liquidated.

    On redemption of investments of UTI Children's Career Fund - Investment Plan, capital gains are taxed as below: The Fund will attract capital gains tax if the redemption value is more than the purchase price. The gains are taxed as Short-Term Capital Gains (STCG) at the time of redemption, if the units are held for less than 12 months. If the units are held for 12 months or more, the gains are taxed as Long-Term Capital Gains (LTCG). As per the current tax laws, STCG is taxed at 15% (plus surcharge and cess), while LTCG is taxed at 10% (plus applicable surcharge and cess) without any indexation benefit. The taxable gains are calculated directly by deducting the investment cost from the redemption proceeds. Further, investors can avail an exemption of Rs. 1 lakh every year for LTCG from equity shares and equity-oriented mutual funds in aggregate. Under scholarship option of the fund, where the scholarship is paid to the beneficiary after he / she attains the age of 18 years to meet cost of his / her education.
